Computer Journal

What have I learned you say? I have learned a lot during our 1st grading. First, we discussed on the basics of programming, hardwares, softwares and the like. Sir Arian discussed about the differences in low level processing time and high level processing time. He showed and discussed to us on how the computer undergoes different processes to show and manifest the output that we, the programmers have sent. I also learned about algorithm which a step by step method that one must follow to arrive at a certain destination and create an output. Algorithms are quite simple if you just learn how follow rules and understand the steps given. After discussing and having activities on that, we proceeded to Scratch. Scratch is a programming software commonly used for kids and teenagers. This was developed by Lifelong Kindergarten MIT Media Lab. Scratch is very accessible for it can be downloaded via the internet.

We have never used the computer lab during the 1st quarter. This was kind of disappointing but we had no other choice but be patient until we could have access to the lab. I find the computer classes last July and August quite plain and simple. I wish there were more fun activities that require interaction with the computer and of course with other classmates.

Lastly, our computer teacher, Sir Arian is always happy. He is a confusing person. Why? Because he does not get angry to us. And we ourselves do not when he gets serious. We do not know and have not seen him get angry. So we cannot adjust with his taste and know our limitations. But in general, he is a fun and jolly person. He is nice to be with and I can see that he is really doing and exerting his best.

First NSTP Area Work Experience

So, here's the thing. The title up there doesn't really match with what I am about to type here. But, here goes nothing. Last Saturday (Aug. 25, 2012) instead of attending our NSTP classes, I and my other friends had to attend swim practice because MILO and PRISAA competitions were drawing near.

It was cold. I tasted the early morning wind as it brushed through my skin. I and the others were to meet at Mc Arthur park. I waited and waited till my legs ached from the long duration I was standing. And as soon as we were complete, we rushed to Marco. Yes, we actually RUSHED. (We were in a hurry) The trip to Marco was long. It took us about 30 minutes. And finally, we arrived. We ran towards the pool for we knew we were late. We were told that our practice would be @ 7AM. But sadly, we arrived one hour late.

We prepared and dressed ourselves and dipped in the pool. It was cold! The pool was crystal clear and clean. Yet we had no time to stop and be amazed by the pool and so the harsh workout began. For more than an hour, we were tasked to swim different strokes. We were given different drills and maybe swam about a total of 2500 Meters. One unique thing about the training that day was that the water was really unstable. It was like we were swimming in open waters. It was wavy (Is that the right term?) and that was what made it more difficult for us to perform the strokes. Our coach was very considerate with the 4 of us so we finished quite ahead than that of the others. We finished @ around 9:30 AM (Don't quite remember the time). We quickly changed, walked to the highway, waited for a jeep and left Marco at 10:15 maybe. The trip was, once again, long. As we stepped into the school premises, we walked quietly up the stairs and opened the red door which we all knew was the 4-Gentleness room.

**
We were surprised to see the room with the lights turned off. I wondered why they turned off the lights. And suddenly they began singing HAPPY BIRTHDAY. (or was that Ave Maria?) We were asked to stand in front and do a consequence for not having our very first area work. Seems like we missed something great. Kyla was pretty pissed for everyone was telling us to do something wherein others did not know what we've been through. In exchange of all the sweat and hardwork my classmates had while cleaning, we were asked to clean the 4Gentleness room.

One thing I learned from the series of events is to be on time, manage your time well, do your best and work hard.  And I guess, the rest of the day was history :)

NSTP Journal: One Day

One Day by Matisyahu.

Sometimes I lay under the moon
And I thank God I'm breathin'

Then I pray don't take me soon

'Cause I am here for a reason

Sometimes in my tears I drown

But I never let it get me down

So when negativity surrounds
I know someday it'll all turn around because

All my life I been waitin' for

I been prayin' for, for the people to say

That we don't want to fight no more
They'll be no more wars
And our children will play, one day

It's not about win or lose 'cause we all lose

When they feed on the souls of the innocent blood

Drenched pavement keep on movin'
Though the waters stay ragin'

And in this life you may lose your way

It might drive you crazy

But don't let it phase you, no way

Sometimes in my tears I drown

But I never let it get me down

So when negativity surrounds
I know someday it'll all turn around because

All my life I been waitin' for

I been prayin' for, for the people to say

That we don't want to fight no more
They'll be no more wars
And our children will play, one day

One day this all will change

Treat people the same

Stop with the violence down with the hate
One day we'll all be free and proud
To be under the same sun
Singing songs of freedom like

This song clearly states through the lyrics of the song that our world is in total chaos. Chaotic because the people living in this world can not attain and obtain peace within themselves. There are wars, mass murders, abortion, human trafficking and an alarming rate of sexual harassment and abusements in our society. The song depicts how the world has changed in such a short period of time. It shows how our generation today has evolved from its inner shell which has been curled up and has not yet been exposed to the outer world. People today are very liberal even to the extent of losing their dignities because of their mindset, "YOLO" which means, You Only Live Once. And because of this they think that they should do everything they want on earth while they still can. The song also reflects on the future of the next generation. If this chaotic society continues, the next generation will not be able to live a well and stable life. They would always feel threatened and they would never understand the word "peace" because of the environment that teaches them the exact opposite.

The song wants the wars, violence, hatred and all the negativity that envelopes around man to be vanquished and eliminated. The song promotes peace so that all of us would live a happy and merry life. Yet, the song does not only state that. It teaches us to never give up despite all the obstacles and challenges we might face in the future. With the environment around us at present, it may be certainly difficult for a person to grow, develop and become a good citizen very easily. The society today hinders us to become a well-developed human being. The society has a very good way of influencing us easily yet we should not be wavered and should stand strong on the values, etiquette and good morals our parents, teachers, religious brothers and sisters have taught us.

But the most important lesson that we can get from this song is that we should never forget to thank God because without Him, we could never stand a chance in this world. He is our everything. Our lives revolve on Him. Only He can solve our problems in a single snap. We should always remember to thank Him and give our sincere gratitude.

The Next Saga: 5 more games! LT Part 2

And I'm back to writing. Now where was I? Oh yes. I recall now. We were done with the 5 games and now we continue with the next half.

So the sixth game ordered us to construct a marshmallow tower using sticks. With only 12 soft marshmallows and 15 sticks we were asked to create a tower. At first, we had a hard time doing the task. Our coach advised us to make the foundation of our base strong and firm so that our tower will not collapse. After series of attempts, we were able to create our tower! The lesson we learned from that simple-to-look-at-yet-hard-to-do activity was that we should always plan on what to do. The marshmallows were so soft that every time we put it on a stick it would create a large hole. The members of our clubs, or organizations are as soft as those marshmallows. Aside from that, we are to make the foundation of our base firm so that our tower won't collapse. Like in our own clubs, we shouldn't build a weak one but a strong and firm foundation of a club.

Next, we had tapes on our mouth. YES -- You might want to read that again. Literally, we had tapes on our mouths. Wanna know why? Well, why else would we tape our mouths? It's to not talk, silly! As soon as all of us didn't have the ability to talk, the teacher instructed us to arrange ourselves orderly according to our birth months. And how did we do that? Here's the thing. We had youngsters to attend to who didn't understand the instruction. We had some letters on our shirts and spelled out the message for them to understand. Then, we also tried writing on the floor with water. (It was raining hard at that time so we were able to wet our fingers) After the long struggle, we were able to successfully get it right and went on with the next game.

The Next game requires creativity. Sir Nelly and Teacher Jenny tested our skills in being resourceful. They provided us with scraps, newspapers, twigs, leaves, and scotch tape. We were to create a female and male character out from these materials in a period of 15 minutes. Among all the games I tested, this was the most fun of all! I created and designed the pants of the male boy and helped with the necessary preparations. Afterwards, I had an impromptu explanation of our scenario. As far as I can remember, I said this: "This scene depicts a young prince saving the princess from a monster. And we the crowd were witnesses of his glory." Then, we were required to give a yell. Since we were a combinations of monkeys and owls (read my last post to know) We had this:

"We are .. We are .. the Monkowls. The Monkowls! We are gonna rock this town. Rock this town!"

And since that was over, we had another game to test our trust within our leader and in following instructions, so sir Ariane brought us to different places, under tables with our eyes closed and blindfolded. It was one heck of an experience because we were asked to jump with out us even knowing how deep the depth was. Haha!

Next, we had a game with Sir Bong! He gave us a situation:

"There is a village. And in this village, there was a leakage of Mercury. There are 5 patients that are to be carried across 6 rivers in order to reach the clinic."

So, I was the nurse at the other edge of the hall so I didn't know what strategies they decided to bring the patients. We all did it in a quick time and it gave us a lesson that all lives are precious. Each millesecond of our lives, is precious. Being a good leader means you know how to manage your time and care about other people's well being.

And lastly, (We were actually the last group to finish all ten obstacles) we had Sir Harvey's game.
We were asked to think on how to cross the place with molten lavas beneath us. The first person will put the 5 folders which we will step on in order to cross. Jansen, Monique and Andre sacrificed to carry the youngsters and assist us in crossing. We did it successfully. Next, we were to face a sort of laser test. The first 3 members are able to touch the lasers. Yet the next members are not to touch the straws that are tied (lasers). We helped in carrying the young ones and I slid to the other side even if it had my back in chaos of dirt. It was like military training 'cuz we had to slid and make our shirts dirty. But it was all worth it.

We had a sharing of our lessons learned. And I shared. I am still ashamed of what I said a while ago but I didn't regret joining my final Leadership Training at SHJMS (our school). Hope this training will be improved and passed on to the following leaders to come. =)

After fixing myself, Sette, Ken and I went to Gaisano and rewarded ourselves with some Sundae (or rather, Saturdaes) and went home happily. I quickly turned on my PC and began writing this. :)

Teheee. Till here!
More posts if I have more experiences! Wish me luck!

Leadership Training 2012

Hey! New blog post means new adventures!
~
Anyways, today we had our annual leadership training at Borja campus. The designated schedule for the training to start was 7:30am. Yet, we waited for hours until the clocked struck 9:00am and we started the program. Sir Bong stood as our emcee, Sir Harvey for the invocation and the Borja and Recto Club Moderators led the singing of the National Anthem and School Hymn.

Minutes later, the academic chairman of the Borja campus, Ms. Liza, gave a brief orientation about today's activity. After her speech, Ms. May took over and the TRAINING officially started! In our name tags there were animals. There were different kinds of animals, some owls, giraffes, birds, bears, dolphins, turtles, lions, penguins and many more. We were asked to group ourselves according to our animal. I belonged to the owl group. Yet, due some unavoidable miscommunication and disorganization of the specific distribution of the number of animals, some groups had only 5 members. With that problem present, the moderators decided to combine few members of a group with another. In each group, there is a specific coach/moderator/teacher that will lead the group.

After all the mishaps were over, now it really has begun! There are 10 different games. We are obliged to finish the ten games in a day. (Time Check: 10:30am)

First, we went off with the "BLIND FOLD" test. It was handled by Teacher Tesh.
Here, we are all required to be blind folded and only one member from the team will not be blindfolded because he/she will lead and guide the rest of the group to walk up the stairs, walk past safely through the blue bars that are in post. This tests our trust between our members and if we are responsible enough to follow instructions.

Afterwards, we went to the next game. It was similar to the trip to Jerusalem game.
It was handled by a borja campus teacher. This tests our alertness in finding ways and solutions in order for us to be convenient.

The third obstacle was a game that was not named. And thus I call it the "LAP A PARTNER" game.
Why LAP? Because this game is similar to the Trip to Jerusalem yet this only is applicable to those who qualify for the qualifications the Teacher (Sir Earl) would say. For example, "To those who are wearing white shirts, move three steps to the right. And all the people in white would move three steps and sit on the person's lap (if ever there is). The game continues until all will be seated on one chair.
The purpose of this game is for the student leaders to realize that in an organization all would share the burden. Yet there are times when some would be at ease and stay comfortable while others would experience hardships and problems. Like the people in the very edge of the seat and those who are first in line.

The fourth obstacle was also another unnamed game. And I will vest power on thy self to name this game, "Protect the Temple from Disaster" game. This was handled by Teacher Annie Rose. Here, the team members are to give up their personal belongings (IDs, watches, shoes, pants, shirts, bags, jackets, or anything in hand at the moment) for a certain barter price. The prices vary with the degree of value the item may be to a person. Other teams accumulated PHP 10,000 from the said barter. While us, we thought we had enough money but then, we only earned PHP 5,830.00 out of the items we gave up. Some of my group mates did not give up their socks, earring, and even shoes.

We are to create a temple out of the materials newspaper, stick and scotch tape. The cost of the newspaper is PHP 500/page. The stick costs PHP 1000.00 while the Scotch tape costs PHP 500/meter.
We created a temple out of the 15 minute time slot. Yet when the teacher kicked it 3 times. Our temple fell. Why? It was because our foundation was not firm. We were not able to sacrifice our belongings and use our minds and hearts to give up for the better of all. And thus, we were not able to be successful in that game but we certainly learned something out from it.

Next, we proceeded to the Shirt Game. We were divided into two groups equally. The first person in line was to wear a shirt and run around a certain object and be back. The next person in line would go along with the first and go back together. Now, the next person (Person #2) would go with Person #3.
We finished ahead of time than the other group. The lesson indicated here is that without the guidance of a leader, a member would be lost in his/her way. In our group, "ALEXA" guided and instructed us to do what we needed to do and thus, our process was fast and we finished first.

And to the sixth game we go on my next blog post! Five more games to go!~~~ BE UPDATED.

Nutrition Jingle Song (Part 2)

(Tune: Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas)

Minsa'y natuwa ang Maylikha
Libong-libo tao ang ginawa.
Kalikasa'y nasa paligid
Hayop, prutas, at gulay.

At bang bayan niyang Pinili
puno ng taong talagang namimili
Ayaw kumain ng gulay,
Na siyang importante sa ating buhay!

CHORUS:

Ugaliin ang pagkain ng gulay,
gawing parte ng ating buhay,
Ihain niyo, sikapin niyo
ang pagkain ng gulay upang buhay ay maging makulay.

Kaya ating tatandaan
May gulay dapat sa hapagkainan,
Salo salo ang bawat miyembro
Upang masagana ang bawat Pilipino

(repeat Chorus)

(Tune: What Makes You Beautiful)

Baby, it lights up our world just like nothing else
Let's eat more fruits and more veggies and drink some milk.
You don't kno-oh-ow. That's what makes us beautifu-uh-ul.
Moses are so wonderful!

House of Moses: The Journey Begins

So here's the thing. Our school felt it was really magical like Hogwarts and thus, we had the creation of the four houses. Yeah, although majority of the seniors hated the idea. And we really did want to write a letter to the principal stating our concerns on why we didn't like the idea. Yet, we had no other opportunity and chance but to proceed with the ways of the school. And as we were sorted by our teachers into the 4 different houses. I was sorted to the Moses' House (or for the more appropriate term, House of Moses.) So, our head moderator was Sir Nelly which was a plus for us.

Moving on, for the past two weeks since the house cup was officially started, we had already 2 incidents. First on July 5, 2012, where a third year student (girl) had a fight with her classmate. It deducted points for us and we were left at a huge disadvantage because our score was already -5.

Today, July 10, 2012, which was also my dear friend JP Bondoc's birthday, a 7Wisdom student (Tobet) almost had a fight with a member from the House of Noah. And up to this point, I have no confirmation IF we were deducted with another five points.

With the series of events that had just happened, I have reflected that our house is one heck of a house. I should really take good care of the people compromising this house. ANYWAYS, it doesn't matter if we might not win the House Cup by the end of the school year as long as we create a better bond between one another. AJA!

                                                             Below is our logo:

This is our T-Shirt design
(For girls: 140PHP with print and shirt.
For Boys 170PHP with print and shirt)

And thus, our journey will continue on. Till where can we suffice and bear all the conflicts, problems and pains that we are bound to face in the future? AND SO, the Journey of Moses continues!
